Frugal Breakfast Recipe

Here is one of my family's favourite breakfast recipes...

French Toast

This is adapted from recipe #188053 at Recipezaar.

We use one loaf of French Bread, (we always get ours for $.90 on the bakery clearance rack in Walmart)
1/4 Cup + 2 TBSP  All-purpose flour
scant tsp                  salt
2 tsp                            ground cinnamon
2 TBSP                       white sugar
1 1/2 Cup                 Milk
5                                 eggs
2 tsp                          vanilla extract

Mix the first four ingredients together. Slowly whisk in milk. Add eggs and vanilla until smooth. Cut bread in slices about an inch thick. Dip bread and allow to soak in for a few seconds. Sometimes you need to stir the egg mixture again since the flour settles in the bottom. Cook on electric griddle at about 300F or in frying pan at med. heat until golden brown on both sides. Enjoy! Tomorrow, I'll have to post the recipe for cheater pancake syrup!

If you already have the other ingredients in the pantry, you can make breakfast for $.90! We find this amply feeds three adults and three small children. Makes a great Sunday night supper too!
